We
design, build, and test refractive systems containing
large elements (up to 14 inches to date) made of exotic
materials (e.g., CaF2, NaCl, broad-band
glasses) coupled with air or index-matching greases
or fluids.
Price Range*:
$10k to $200k+, plus optics.

Telescope
Encoding and Drive Systems
The Pilot
Group engineers and installs servo drive systems as
retrofits for existing telescopes. We can retrofit
any size telescope with a modern servo control system
with performance that meets or exceeds your requirements
for a reasonable price. The Pilot Group uses proprietary
servo control software that allows easy interface
capability. You can use your existing control interface
with minimal software changes or you can let The Pilot
Group provide one. Your optics and mount can be running
with a great control system sooner and cheaper than
you think.
Price Range*:
$20k to $125k+

Intraocular
Lens (IOL) Equipment and Medical Instruments:
Test
Equipment for Optical Measurement of Intraocular Lenses (IOL)
 |
|
| Comprehensive
IOL Tester |
|
Our
IOL test equipment includes instruments for the semi-automated
measurement of focal length, resolution, and MTF.
For accommodating IOL's, we also offer an instrument
that measures force and displacement concurrent with
the optical measurements.
For clinical
use, we offer a Badal Optometer. This device makes
use of a Badal optical system to present a constant-magnification
image to the subject. The image vergence is then scanned
over a range from -0.25 D to +8 D to ascertain the
available accommodation in the subject's eye.
Price Range*:
$18k to $120k+

Inserter Assembly |
|
|
We have
experience in the design and prototype fabrication
of devices for the insertion of IOL's. Costs generally
range from $5-10k for a conceptual design to $75k
for complete design, analysis, and prototype fabrication.
Price Range*:
$5k to $75k+ depending on requirements

Intraocular
Lens (IOL) and Standard Lens Certification
The Pilot Group
provides certification services for IOL’s and standard
lenses. Where applicable, our measurements are traceable
to NIST standards.
The lens parameters
we can certify include:
- Effective
focal length (EFL)
- Back focal
length (BFL)
- Resolution
and Resolution Efficiency
- Modulation
Transfer Function (MTF)
For IOL’s,
in addition to the parameters above, we can also measure
and certify the following:
- Lens geometry
- Power in aqueous
For multifocal
IOL’s we can also measure:
- Add power
- Through focus
response (TFR)
- Visual subjective
quality factor (SQFV)
And for accommodating
IOL’s, we can further measure:
- Radial deflection
forces
- Axial deflection
forces
- Lens vault
When necessary,
we can measure IOL’s while in a temperature-controlled
eye cell per ISO Standard 11979-2.
